I think it is because it is stiff and he needs to push the handle on harder, whereas the old unit had worn loose with use. The problem with this aerator design is that though it screws into the tap OK (22mm thread) there is no rim/shoulder on the aerator to but up to the taps rim to create a water tight seal ie cant use a rubber washer, currently water leaks out between DH has fitted it in the tap, but the handle doesn't go back and join up as closely as before.
